Peter Vest started his career as assistant lecturer at the department of business administration of the University of Mainz. In 1994 he received a PhD and an award of the Teves foundation. From 1994 to the end of 1998 he was also scientific director at the Forschungsinstitut für Wirtschaftspolitik e.V. [Research Institute for Economic Policies] of the University of Mainz.

In 1996, with four partners he founded the InterCom group, a consulting firm for marketing with subsidiaries in Mainz, Hamburg, Wolfsburg, Prague and Barcelona; being managing partner until middle of 2003. After selling the InterCom group Dr. Vest moved to EnBW AG as division manager marketing. In the middle of 2006 he was appointed division manager sales residential and commercial customers of EnBW AG. At the same time he served as spokesman of the board of Yello Strom, member of the supervisory board of several group companies of EnBW and member of the advisory board of VWEW Energieverlag. At the beginning of 2010 Dr. Vest became member of the board of Kofler Energies AG leaving the company in February 2011, when Kofler Energies went out of its private customers business.

Since March 2011 Dr. Vest has been developing his own investment portfolio in energy efficiency, energy management and renewable energies supporting innovative companies like the storage technology specialist Nation E, Zurich or IQ Energies in creating new business. At the same time he is founder and CEO of IRE Energies Consult GmbH and chairman of the board of the Institut für Recht und Energie e.V. [Institute for Law and Energy] in Frankfurt am Main.
